About This Project

Design & construction for the upgrade of the Kent Street Weir. The Department of Water owns & operates the Kent Street Weir, situated on the Canning River & included on the State Heritage Register & was originally constructed in 1926/27. It had significant upgrades in 1940 & 1962. The City of Canning constructed a footbridge over it in 1989. The footbridge is still operational & forms part of the network of trails & walking tracks in the Canning area. The function of the Weir is to prevent tidal salt water ingress into the upper fresh water reaches of the Canning River during periods of low rainfall, such as during summer & drought conditions. The Department of Water undertakes routine maintenance of this asset & has deemed that it requires either an upgrade or a replacement.
