About This Project

The Principal invites tenders for the provision of artificial reef construction & deployment. As part of the State Governments support package to boost recreational fishing & tourism opportunities following the introduction of marine parks, a new trial artificial reef will be built in north-western Gulf St Vincent (GSV) through the SA Habitat Enhancement Project. PIRSA Fisheries & Aquaculture has been leading this trial, in collaboration with the Department for Environment, Water & Natural Resources (DEWNR), RecFish SA, other government agencies & community stakeholders. Undertaking artificial reef construction through the restoration of Native Oyster reef habitat is being progressed as a proactive approach to improving opportunities for recreational fishers in South Australia. Key components of the trial artificial reef project include: reef design, construction, deployment, oyster transplantation, monitoring & communication. As part of the project, artificial reef construction & deployment services (maritime services) are required to build the reef. This requires skills, knowledge & capacity for the construction & deployment of artificial substrates, including limestone rocks, purpose built marine concrete structures (eg reef balls), & Pacific Oyster shells. Scope: This tender focuses on the project components of construction & deployment of two artificial reef units. The desired goods & services required for this tender: a) The supply, delivery & deployment of substrates for artificial reef construction of two reef units each containing three varying substrate types: 1) Small limestone rock mixed with Pacific Oyster shall as per specification (the Tenderer will be required to meet the biosecurity regulations associated with the transport & deployment of Pacific Oyster shells); 2) Purpose built marine concrete structures (eg reef balls); 3) Large limestone rock. b) Manufacture of the purpose built marine concrete structures (eg reef balls); c) Deployment of Pacific Oyster shells seeded with Native Oyster spat. The goods & services not required for this tender include: 1) Artificial reef design & layout - with the exception of design & engineering of purpose built marine concrete structures (eg reef balls); 2) Source supplier for Pacific Oyster shells; 3) Seeding & transportation of Pacific Oyster shells with Native Oyster spat.
